A new awards programe has launched this year, to recognise innovations that are shaping the future of advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous vehicles. Named the AVVIs (the awards are organised by ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International magazine), the ceremony will take place on Wednesday at ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo in Stuttgart.
A shortlist of nominated innovations in eight categories launched during the last 18 months has been by a judging panel (see below), with the winners decided by the magazine’s readership.
The shortlisted innovations:
Vehicle deployment of the Year
This category recognises standout vehicle deployments that successfully integrate ADAS or autonomous technology.
- Waymo (200,000 paid rides a week)
- WeRide (driverless permits across five countries: China, UAE, Singapore, France & USA)
- BMW Highway Assistant/Personal Pilot L3 (first OEM to receive approval for an ADAS system combining Level 2 and Level 3 assistance in the same vehicle)
- Kodiak &Atlas Energy (first successful commercial L4 operation with no human safety driver)
- Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot (2024 update allows hands-free driving at speeds of up to 95km/h on German motorways)
Safety innovation of the Year
This category recognises technologies or systems designed to improve safety and reduce risks.
- Valeo & Teledyne FLIR (first Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) B thermal imaging technology for night vision ADAS)
- HAAS Alert Safety Cloud (collision prevention system)
- VW Emergency Assist (driver attention monitoring)
- ZF Multi Stage Load Limiter (adaptive seat belt system)
Collaboration of the Year
This category recognises successful partnerships between companies that have led to a breakthrough in ADAS or autonomous technology.
- BMW & Stellantis (STLA Autodrive L3 autonomous driving system)
Rivian & VW (US$5.8 billion joint venture) - ASAM Open X (open, flexible, transparent, and collaborative simulation standards)
- RAVE Checklist (Recommendations for Overcoming Challenges in Retrospective Safety Studies of Automated Driving Systems)
In-cabin Innovation of the Year
This category recognises technologies that enhance driver/passenger experience, comfort or safety.
- NOVELIC Automotive In-cabin Monitoring (ACAM)
- SmartEye Sheila (AI co-driver)
- AVS Scaner Human Factors (driver behaviour simulation)
Engineering Team of the Year
This category recognises exceptional engineering teams driving key innovations in ADAS or autonomous technology.
- Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot (2024 update allows hands-free driving at speeds of up to 95km/h on German motorways)
- MAN Truck & Bus TruckScenes (free/open sensor and driving database)
- Goodyear & TNO (integration of tire intelligence technology into AEB system)
- Kodiak & Atlas Energy (driverless logistics commercial operation)
Public Awareness Campaign of the Year
This category recognises initiatives that have successfully educated the public on ADAS/autonomous technology, increasing awareness and adoption.
- EuroNCAP Truck Rating Overview
- Torc Robotics First Responder campaign
- IIHS partial automation safeguard ratings
Disruptor of the Year
This category recognises companies, products, individuals or initiatives that have significantly challenged conventional industry practices.
- Wayve (Generalisable AI vehicle model)
- NXP CoreRide platform
- DeepSeek (Open source AI model)
Startup of the Year
This category recognises early-stage companies (≤5 years old) that are making a significant impact in ADAS or autonomous vehicle technology.

The winners will be announced at 4:30pm CEST in Hall 9 of ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo at Messe Stuttgart, Germany, on 21st May.
