Applus+, a global inspection, testing, certification and quality control company, has acquired the Chinese company EDI, which specializes in automotive design and engineering, and the development of prototype vehicles.

The acquisition will allow the company to consolidate its position in China, reinforcing its commitment to providing global coverage to its international clients. Applus+ IDIADA, the division that specializes in the provision of design, engineering, testing and homologation services to the automotive sector, will now increase its capacity to offer local support to its clients operating in China.

The main services Applus+ IDIADA currently provides in China includes product development, mainly in the fields of active and passive safety, computer design and simulation, the implementation of whole-vehicle durability programs and vehicle, systems and components homologation.

The acquisition of EDI “is another step in the expansion of Applus+ as a leading company in the provision of specialized services for the automotive industry on an international scale,” said Fernando Basabe, CEO of Applus +.

Carles Grasas, CEO of Applus+ IDIADA, commented, “the integration of EDI allows us to increase our technical capabilities and human resources in China to 165 people, as well as expand our presence with new facilities in Liuzhou, which are added to those the company already has in Shanghai, Beijing, Changchun, Chongqing and Guangzhou”.
