MIRA installs all-new AB Dynamics’ SPMM5000

Independent vehicle consultancy MIRA has installed AB Dynamics’ SPMM5000, to launch Europe’s first, independent, dynamic suspension parameter measurement machine (SPMM).

The fixed ground plane kinetics and compliance (K&C) test machine will be located alongside the company’s SPMM4000, the first K&C machine developed by AB Dynamics, installed at MIRA 20 years ago.

Reflecting the changes in vehicle design, and dynamics, the SPMM5000 has a longer wheel station, designed for larger SUV’s and the largest, light commercial vehicles, including those with twin wheel, rear axles.

The SPMM5000 uses a real-time controller to deliver a 10-fold increase in computing power. Another enhancement is the ability to communicate with the vehicle’s on-board systems, transferring data to and from the vehicle during testing.

“We are delighted to have been chosen to supply MIRA with its second K&C machine,” said Tim Rogers, MD of AB Dynamics. “The latest is the most advanced SPMM machine that we have made to date, providing – amongst other things – a significant increase in wheel stroke to handle larger SUV type vehicles.”
