Monroe launches passive damper valve with dual-stage bleed technology

Monroe Ride Solutions, part of Tenneco, has developed a passive damper piston valve that it says delivers independent tuning of rebound and compression damping to address noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) in light vehicle platforms.

The Monroe DCx (Double Comfort eXperience) valve uses a dual-stage bleed design to minimise damping forces at very low piston rod velocities. According to Monroe, this isolates high-frequency road textures and micro-vibrations that are primary contributors to NVH.

Each stage of the bleed is independently tuneable in terms of rebound and compression, allowing engineers to optimise damping force control for a given vehicle’s comfort and handling targets, without compromise between the two characteristics.

The Monroe DCx valve has a dual-stage bleed design

The DCx valve is available in double-tube Monroe OE Solutions dampers and is compatible with Monroe Ride Refine secondary valve systems, which provide additional tuning range beyond the primary valve.

John Kinnick, vice president and general manager of Monroe Ride Solutions, said, “Monroe DCx is the first series production valve system for passive dampers that enables light-vehicle OEMs to eliminate the compromise between comfort and performance while ensuring outstanding NVH reduction. Our global engineering team continues to advance the science of ride control.”
